Job Summary:
The Production Manager is responsible for day-to-day production within the print facility. Supervises, motivates, and supports the staff and department managers daily, applying a team approach and maintaining open communication. The Production Manager plans, schedules, strategizes, and oversee all production activities while maintaining profitability. The Production Manager performs essential functions to ensure overall customer satisfaction and quality service, and establishes and maintains effective communication with employees and clients. The Production Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient planning and scheduling of personnel and equipment to reduce bottlenecks and problems.

Responsibilities and Duties
General and Administrative
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor that reflects the company’s commitment to quality.  Continuous improvement and respect for individuals.
  • Supervise the production team to produce and prioritize jobs and, when necessary, reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.
  • Comply with all OSHA safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with the CEO, accounting, purchasing, marketing, customer service, and the production team, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that production, sales, and customer objectives are met.
  • Follow systems and procedures outlined in the company employee handbook and SOPs.

Production Operations
  • Organize workflow according to workload in order to meet delivery schedules and to complete assigned jobs.
  • Maintain production control records and provide information to sales representatives, customers, and management with regard to delivery dates, schedules and operating problems.
  • Schedule, plan, and conduct production meetings.
  • Schedule employee work hours.
  • Prepare, update, and communicate the production schedule.
  • Manage the coordination and control of all jobs/work orders.
  • Monitor quality, accuracy, and timeliness of all orders to ensure customer commitments are met through production of high quality material that meets customer delivery expectations.
  • Ensure the completion of all duties with a minimum of materials waste and abuse to equipment.
  • Ensure employee safety training is conducted as required by company policy.
  • Work with purchasing on forecasting materials needs and minimizing waste.
  • Work with human resources to maximize productivity and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and minimize downtime.
  • Act as resource to BI/Financial Analyst for product costing and shipping analysis.
  • Identify talent among production workers, and promote and mentor same.
  • Train department managers and floor supervisors in management techniques and responsibilities.
  • Develop metrics for KPIs and other objective measurements of productivity.
  • Manage P&L for the print facility with full accountability to management for profitability. This includes but is not limited to labor budget, cost control for materials used, utilities, recycling income, and intangibles that affect the bottom line.
  • Constantly improve workflows – both systems and physical workflows – to maximize efficiencies.
  • Cooperate with software developers on cutting edge technology to improve productivity.

Job requirements
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in fields such as Business Administration, Supply Chain, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Science/Materials.
  • Ten years’ experience as Operations or Production Manager, with minimum two years’ experience in the print industry.
  • No scheduling restrictions.
  • Ability to travel if needed, up to 25%.
  • Willingness to relocate.
